Beyond the sea
Great Britain, being an island, is surrounded by water. The outlier of
Europe, the Brits have always had a thing for their coastal towns.
Bournemouth, Brighton, the Kent coastline, are the ones that come to mind
first. The sea is hugely important for many industries — tourism, fishing,

Chance Encounters in The Valley of Lights
Chance Encounters in the Valley of Lights tells the story of an unsolved extraterrestrial case from 1980s Todmorden, West Yorkshire. Photographer Rik Moran combines original imagery with never-before-seen archival material to investigate the possible alien abduction of PC Alan Godfrey. In illuminating one of small-town England’s most unlikely protagonists, Chance Encounters unearths another other-worldly mystery along the way.
Southtown
Tommy Lee Grimmer is a young photographer based in Great Yarmouth, East England,
which is, in fact, the part of the country which is the furthest East. His
project Southtown explores his hometown, the area where he grew up, its physical
environment and community as well as the change of his perspective from a child
to now an adult.

Conrado Velasco is a photographer and art director born and educated in the
Philippines. He currently divides his time between Ireland and Germany and here

Jim Mortram’s Small Town Inertia is an ongoing project which shines a light on the real life consequences the so-called “A-word” is continuing to have on communities, over a decade since its introduction. It wreaks havoc on the most vulnerable in our society and it targets those who can least afford basic necessities.
Casitas
The project exposes the living conditions that Puerto Ricans have to endure such as natural catastrophes, limited government support and unstable electric service. Although the series began in 2013, it wasn’t until 2017 when Hurricane Maria hit Puerto Rico that Saldaña realised the series is something more than just a personal project — it is a testament of the residence of the local population.

A person’s own life ultimately comes to a screeching halt when their child is born. They are no longer fully free or the center of their own universe as there is that tiny human whose creation they were responsible for and who cannot take care of their own basic needs.
Legacy
Legacy is a response to the impact of the year of City of Culture 2017 in her hometown of Hull, within the city’s spaces and places. The work is a synthesis of careful research done within the various communities and organizations involved that were affected during and after the impact of the year of culture.
